Children of Men

Honestly, I have no idea what is going on in this movie. I can only make a guess and even that isn't saying much. For some unknown reason, the fertilization rate is decreasing and women are no longer having children. With only one group (I forgot the name), making a safe haven for humans indicates that something is going wrong in the government or they are trying to control the population. With one girl being pregnant, she needs the help of adults who kind of have an idea of what is going on because she has never seen a pregnant woman before. A group she thought was safe actually wants to kill her baby. But why? Maybe they feel the government will come after them as a group if they find out about the baby. Maybe the group is part of the government and wants to find answers as to why women cannot have babies anymore. But, could the government be directly involved with this phenomenon to create a certain type of population in society? I can only make guesses because this movie is extremely different than most and one that can be open for interpretation.

Facebook Addiction

Why is it that people feel the need to get on Facebook literally every day? I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I don't fall into this category because I do tend to get on Facebook frequently because I like to see what people are doing. Or in other words, creep. Don't pretend that you guys don't do it, too. Mostly, I get on to stay in touch with my friends back in Nashville and see how they're doing. But it tends to become a distraction at the worst times. I also read posts from other people saying that Facebook is such an addiction and they honestly can't stay off of it to get their homework done. I, personally, can stay off and finish my school work, but for some people, they just seem to have an addiction problem. But, who's to judge what people do with their free time?

Media in our everyday lives

According to Nielsen Media Research, there are 2.73 television sets in the typical home and only 2.55 people. Seeing as there are more TV sets in the home than people, that says something about our society today. As reliant as we are today on TV to entertain us, I'm surprised kids have any social skills whatsoever. As depicted in the image above, kids will have a life filled with media. Seeing as almost every household has a television that is probably constantly on, kids will learn from what they see on TV. The background creates a dark, scary environment that shows the isolation the child may find itself in one day. The fact that the child is staring into the audiences eyes depicts clearly how media constantly affects its life and how that child will one day act. Instead of families raising their kids, they have the television do that for them. There are shows that teach kids how to read, write, and talk without ever having to open a real book. The lack of family interaction with children has limited the social skills that children really need to eventually become successful adults.
